“LAW ON PET ANIMALS” SUBMITTED TO THE STATE GREAT KHURAL / PARLIAMENT
A draft of the “Law on Pet Animals”, aimed at protecting the rights of companion animals and creating an environment where owners act responsibly, has reached its final stage and was officially submitted to the State Great Khural of Mongolia on September 26, 2022. The draft law was jointly developed by Members of Parliament B. Enkhbayar, J. Sukhbaatar, and Kh. Nyambaatar, together with representatives of citizens and the NGO “Lucky Paw – Youth Who Love Animals”. Exactly one year before submitting the draft law, our NGO’s proposal was positively received, and the aspirations and goals of our youth were strongly supported by Member of Parliament Battumur Enkhbayar, who became the initiator of the project. We would like to express our sincere gratitude, on behalf of animal lovers and the many people who will directly and indirectly benefit from this law, to the co-initiators of the draft law: Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Khishgee Nyambaatar and Minister of Mongolia and Head of the National Committee for Reducing Ulaanbaatar Traffic Congestion Jamyankhorloo Sukhbaatar. Submitting this draft law represents the result of nine years of voluntary work, dedication, and effort, and it marks an important milestone as the dreams and goals of our volunteers move closer to becoming reality. Our journey toward building a humane society and environment that is friendly to both people and animals continues successfully. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the initiators, members of the project team, and all citizens and organizations supporting us. The “Law on Pet Animals” is not only about protecting animals but also about regulating the relationship between humans and animals and promoting responsible interaction. Once adopted, this long-awaited law by animal lovers will become a major step toward legally protecting animal rights and building a responsible society in Mongolia. The realization of this draft law, which aims to protect the rights of companion animals, create an animal-friendly environment, and encourage responsible pet ownership, is drawing closer. We sincerely thank everyone and every organization that has contributed to this important cause.
